PVENART
Application

A message from Police Chief Tony Best
Thank you for your interest in PVE Neighborhood Amateur Radio Team or PVENART.
In PVE we are excited to have such dedicated volunteer groups that support our efforts in areas of crime prevention with Neighborhood Watch and emergency response with both our Disaster District Program (DDP) and our Neighborhood Amateur Radio Team (NART).
Effective teamwork begins and ends with communication. If a severe emergency should hit our City, the ability to communicate with a multitude of entities by the Emergency Operations Center at City Hall is vital. History has shown that the systems that are in place to accomplish all these needs may quickly become overwhelmed when a large-scale emergency hits.
Fortunately, the City has a group of Amateur Radio Operators (Hams) who have been trained to help solve these problems. This group is currently 45 volunteers and we would welcome more to meet a target of 100 licensed radio operators.
With VHF/UHF Ham stations in City Hall, the PVE Police Department, our Mobile Command Unit and six areas around the city NART can support our communication efforts following an emergency.
If you are a licensed ham and could help, please call Community Relations Officer at (310) 378-4211, or e-mail PVENART@pvestates.org. There are no dues and the demand on your time will be minimal–about 30 minutes a week after being trained on emergency procedures and radio equipment.
Your support could make the difference if, and when, a disaster hits. If you would like to help but do not have a ham license, there are classes offered locally to help you pass the FCC tests. Knowledge of Morse code is no longer required for ANY amateur radio license.
We look forward to welcoming you to the team.
Chief Best
