Emergency radio communications
The Palos Verdes Estates’ Neighborhood Amateur Radio Team is a volunteer group of Federally Licensed Amateur Radio Operators, who support the city of Palos Verdes Estates and the PVE Disaster District Program by providing emergency radio communications in the immediate aftermath of a disaster or severe emergency involving our City.

In such times, normal means of communication may be cut off due to power outages or damage to infrastructure. An incident of sufficient intensity could render telephones, cell phones, internet access, email and other forms of communication inoperable. Until these can be restored, which may be days or weeks, radio communications will be the only means of contact between separated parties.

Our mission
In response to a disaster affecting the City of Palos Verdes Estates, the primary mission of the Neighborhood Amateur Radio Team is to provide two-way radio communications closely integrated with the City's Disaster District Program. NART operations provide information links among the City's Emergency Operations Center, its Mobile Command Post and its Disaster District command centers supporting local disaster mitigation efforts, appraising City officials of conditions and relaying timely information updates.
Secondary missions are to assist with PVPUSD message traffic and to provide mutual aid communications support to other South Bay Cities and beyond in times of emergency.

More About NART
“In today's world, when it seems everyone expects the government to always protect you from calamity, it is especially important to volunteer your own time and energy for the good of the community. Being self-sufficient in times of disaster can only occur when trained volunteers step forward to help our neighbors. NART and DDP are effective and efficient because the individual members' efforts are multiplied by being organized and trained to follow FEMA guidelines. We cannot know what exactly the emergency situation will be, but we can train to communicate with each other, thereby increasing our effectiveness.”
